Could someone tell me whether Android OS is based on UNIX or LINUX?

Android OS, a famous Operating System jointly developed by Google (parent company) and other 80+ tech companies, (Open Handset Alliance, 2007), which powers the majority of the smartphones around the globe today, is made on top of Linux-kernel. Android OS is not entirely based on Linux, and neither UNIX, only uses Linux Kernel, so that Android developers don’t have to develop a new kernel for their OS. Android OS doesn’t use any other piece of software as other Linux distros or distributions use, that’s why Android OS is not completely based on Linux.
