Could someone explain what is threat hunting in cybersecurity?

Threat hunting is a proactive method of defending and preventing further security breaches inside the organization’s network system. Now what these cyber threat hunters do exactly is that they perform their job by assuming that the cybercriminals are already inside their system and are plotting an attack on the whole of the network system, from inside. 

Now, these criminals could be anyone an insider or an outsider like a gang of black hats.
